Newsletter Issue #7 - January 1998
Welcome to the seventh "unofficial" Cheap
Trick newsletter. As well as the latest news, you'll find enclosed a short interview I had
with Roy Wood just before Christmas rwinterview.htm,
and the latest Trickstuff merchandise list. Hope you all had a good Christmas, and best
wishes for 1998. Many thanks to those people who sent me cards !
The band played a special show on New Years Eve at the Hard Rock Cafe, San Francisco. This
was part of a special series of new Years Eve shows hosted by the Hard Rock Cafe chain
around the US and I gather the show was a great success. During the summer tour, the band
have played nearly all of the songs from the CT(97) album live. For interest, the set list
of the Dec 31 show was :- I Want You to Want Me, Come On, Come On, She's Tight, Anytime,
Ain't That a Shame, I Know What I Want, Wrong All Along, If You Want My Love, Southern
Girls, Voices, Heaven Tonight, Don't Be Cruel, Surrender, Auld Lang Syne and Dream Police.
The band are currently taking a well earned break from touring, having been on the road
almost non stop since early Dec 1996 ! However, that doesn't mean that nothing is
happening ! I understand that they are currently writing material for a new album, as well
as preparing for their second "Trickfest".
Trickfest 2 has been confirmed as going ahead February 26-28 at Merrillville, Indiana. The
first, held on 24 August 1995 in Chicago was a one day event, but is set to be
significantly larger this time around ! The 3 day event is open to Trick International
members only, who should already have received notification from TI. I understand it will
include a special "members only" all-request show (on 27/2), as well as photo
opportunities, autograph session and a charity auction of band memorabilia. One special
auction item will be Bun.E's 1979 Lincoln Continental, originally bought with his
"Live at Budokan" royalties in the summer of 1979. Bun E will be driving it to
Fest, and the lucky buyer gets to drive it home ! The 28 Feb evening will see a concert at
the Star Plaza Theatre, Merrillville titled "An Evening with Cheap Trick" which
is open to the public. A further public show may be arranged for 1 March, location to be
announced. Looks to be a hectic long CT weekend !
During December, Cheap Trick amicably parted company with their manager for the past two
years, Larry Mazer. Management activity is now being handled by CNP&Z in Madison,
Wisconsin. They can be reached via e-mail at TRICKINTL@aol.com
In case you are still looking, Bill McNie tells me that a shop was advertising the
"Gift" CD (the 1995 US CD single featuring the tracks Christmas Christmas and
Come On Christmas - the latter a reworking of the classic Come On, Come On) in Kerrang
megazine in Dec. Cost was £5.99, the shop was Mike Lloyd Music Rock Mail Order, 14-20
Brunswick Street, Hanley, Stoke-on-Trent, Staffs, ST1 1DR, England. Thanks, Bill.
A "new" live video was released in December in the USA, though I'm not aware of
any plans to release it in Europe. First released in Australia some years ago, it is a
live video of a show at Salina's Club, Sydney, Australia from 10 Feb 1988, on the Lap of
Luxury tour.

I hope you've found this issue informative. Unless you have already done so, please send
an sae (UK) or International Reply Coupon (IRC) (Europe) for the next issue. This will
include a report on Trickfest 2, reviewing the event and the various shows, plus any news
I pick up whilst there etc. I anticipate Issue #8 being sent out mid-late March, jet lag
permitting !
