In addition to the dates above, the band played a sold-out show in Brooklyn, NY
on 26 Jan which was filmed for the PBS "Soundstage" programme and expected to
air in the US in June or July. The band will also be recording an episode of
"Austin City Limits" in March for later broadcast.
Recent set lists have included new songs "Miracle", "Miss Tomorrow", "Sleep
Forever" and "Closer - The Ballad of Burt and Linda", as well as classics such
as "Heaven Tonight", "Baby Loves to Rock" and Just Got Back". The Cheap Trick
Webmaster is posting setlists to the official messageboards as each show
happens.
There are several media appearences to watch/listen out for in the next week:
- the band recorded an episode of the US TV show "One Tree Hill" on 8 Dec 2009
(performing "Smile", "Surrender" and "I Want You To Want Me"), with the episode
scheduled to debut in US on 1 Feb 2010;
- a performance from NYC (recorded on 28 Jan at the Hard Rock Cafe in Times
Square) can be heard on Sirius/XFM's "Artist Confidential", which is being
re-broadcast on Feb 1, 2, 4 and 5 in the US;
- a reworked version of "Dream Police" will be featured in an Audi commecial
during the Superbowl on 7 Feb. The song can be heard on the entry page of www.cheaptrick.com.
The band have announced that they will be playing some shows with Squeeze in the
summer 2010, but there are no further details at present. Keep watching the
official website for news.
Since my last newsletter, there have been a number of shows and tour news to
note:
- the band members played nine well attended and well received shows at the
Hilton Hotel in Las Vegas in September, performing "Sgt Pepper Live" together
with a full orchestra and other guest artists;
- the third leg of Def Leppard's North American tour (on which Cheap Trick were
to be special guests) was cancelled by Def Leppard;
- on 7 Nov 2009, the band were musical guests at "An Evening with Scott Hamilton
and Friends" in Cleveland. Scott has been a long time friend, and personally
invited the band to perform at the event, along with the Cleveland Pops
Orchestra. Several songs from "Sgt Pepper" were played, along with several Cheap
Trick songs;
- the band performed at Landshark Stadium, Miami on 27 Dec 2009, before the NFL
game between Miami and Houston. Rick also performed at half time with Brian Ray
and Orianthi in a tribute to Les Paul. In addition, the band played a set at the
Rose Bowl Tailgate Party at Pasadena, CA on Jan 1st, prior to the big Rose Bowl
football game.
It's worth checking out the bands "YouTube" channel, as a number of new videos
have recently been added. These include some 1980 rehearsal footage in advance
of that summers Chicagofest show, also several songs from the Budokan in 1979 on
the "Dream Police" tour, plus footage from Spring Break Daytona in 1989.
Don't forget to check the official website regularly. There are currently a lot
of new photo's from recent shows/events, and of course cheaptrick.com is the
first place to find news, up-to-date tour dates, as well as merchandise etc.
I hope you've found this latest issue informative and don't forget my archive
