Newsletter Issue #36 - December, 2002
Welcome to the thirty sixth "UNOFFICIAL"
Cheap Trick newsletter! This includes a review of the shows on the West Coast in October
{Review cal_octo.htm} which I
hope you find of interest. My apologies for this newsletter being much later than
scheduled, but I had been waiting to see if any more European dates would be announced.
Nothing as yet, so rather than delay this further, I've decided to mail this out and I'll
follow up when there's more CD or Europe news.
The following live dates are currently announced on the official CT website as at 15 Dec:
27 Dec - Atlanta GA; 28 - St Petersburg FL; 29 - Ft Lauderdale FL; 31 - Orlando (Universal
Studio's). 18 Jan 2003 - Temecula CA; 20 - San Francisco; 21 - San Francisco; 24 -
Portland OR; 8 Feb - Ardmore OK; 14 - Laredo TX; 15 - Fort Worth TX; 21 - Robinsonville
MS; 13 Mar - Royal Albert Hall, London; 29 - Tacoma WA; 1 Apr - Eugene OR; 25 May - Little
Rock AR; 19 Jul - Sarnia, Ontario, Canada. Please note the London date has changed from
12th to 13th March. Additionally, the Tacoma and Eugene dates have just been put back from
January to March, so my guess is that the 24 Jan date in Portland might also change. As
always, dates are subject to confirmation and change, please check before travelling.
The band played two terrific shows at Anaheim's "House of Blues" in early
October, playing a number of the new songs. The shows were recorded by Westwood One for
broadcast at a later date. However, the following three shows, at Fresno, Coachella and
Bakersfield were all cancelled at short notice due to Robin having an abdominal complaint.
Medical advice was that he rest, hence those shows were cancelled. I understand that Robin
is doing fine, and the Coachella CA date was rearranged for mid November.
No more news as yet on release date(s) of the new studio CD in the US or Europe, though
the HMV chain in Japan have listed a Spring release for the CD there. But at the time of
my writing this, no official release date in Japan is confirmed. HMV Japan note that the
tracks include Low Life, Special One, Too Much, My Obsession, Pop Drone, If I Could, Scent
of a Woman, Best Friend, Sorry Boy and Words, plus a bonus track of Special One sung in
Japanese. Again, I have no official confirmation of this info. Some of these songs have
been performed live over the past 18 months, but there are a couple of songs that will be
new to everyone! No title for the CD was given.
Robin performed the national anthem at the Kansas City Chiefs v Miami Dolphins football
game on Sun Sept 29. The band had played at nearby Bonner Springs, Kansas the night
before. And on 30 Sept, the band spent a day filming a cameo scene for the upcoming movie
"Daddy Daycare" which stars Eddie Murphy. Rick's "Uncle Dick" guitar
also features, apparently somewhat more than the band do!
Sadly, the band did not make the nomination shortlist for induction into the 2003 Rock
& Roll Hall of Fame. However, a number of well known artists will be inducted in next
years ceremony, including The Police, Elvis Costello and AC/DC.

archived on my internet site - http://website.lineone.net/~kgisborne5. I'm currently
having problems updating the website so the last review is temporarily at
www.geocities.com/lkjct/ca.html (plus ca2.html and some general London info on the same
site at londoninfo.html - Thanks Lisa J!). I'm looking for a new website host, and I'll
let you know if/when I move the website elsewhere.
I hope you've found this issue informative, and again I apologise for delaying this issue.
If you receive this by paper mail, I'd be grateful you could send a sae (or more) or IRC
for the next issue. If you (or any other Trick fans you know) would prefer to receive this
newsletter by e-mail in future, please write to or e-mail me. And as ever at this time of
year, I wish everyone a Happy Christmas and best wishes for 2000+3! Hope to see you at a
CT show next year!
